U.S. Rep. Steve Buyer has Knee Surgery

December 29th, 2006 · No Comments

U.S. Rep. Steve Buyer underwent surgery for a knee injury he suffered while skiing last week, his spokeswoman said.

Buyer, a Republican who won re-election last month to his eighth two-year term, had surgery Tuesday at an orthopedic hospital in Lafayette, spokeswoman Laura Zuckerman said.

Buyer, 48, hurt his knee during a vacation with his family to Aspen, Colo. He expects to fly to Washington for the swearing-in ceremony during the opening session of Congress on Jan. 4, but will then return to Indiana to continue his rehabilitation.

Buyer represents Indiana’s 4th congressional district, which stretches from the Lafayette area through the western and southern suburbs of Indianapolis to the Bedford area, south of Bloomington. He was chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee for the past two years, but he will no longer have that position with the Democratic takeover of the House.
