Fullback Asaph Schwapp, who hasn’t played since his left knee locked up in Notre Dame’s 41-17 victory over Penn State on Sept. 9, will undergo surgery Thursday.
“I told him we would wait until the [off week, but] there’s no sense in waiting another day,” Irish coach Charlie Weis said. “So we’re going to go fix it. The injury really is an old injury that just reoccurred, so we really don’t know what the severity of it is.”
The knee had locked up once in practice before it happened again against Penn State, Weis said. If the injury does turn out to be season-ending, having it fixed preserves the possibility that Schwapp, a sophomore, could be eligible for a fifth year
