Knee Surgery for Jason Richarson
Guard Jason Richardson is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left knee Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to a source familiar with the situation. The clean-up procedure is not considered to be a major one, and Richardson is expected to be back in time for training camp in October.
Golden State’s leading scorer has been bothered by knee problems since last preseason, when he skipped the Warriors’ final two practices before their regular-season opener. An MRI exam taken on the left knee at the time revealed no structural damage, and Richardson vowed to play through the pain.
He started 41 straight games until a back injury forced him out for a week, but by the end of March, Richardson’s right knee had begun bothering him and he missed three of the Warriors’ final seven games.
A team spokesperson would not confirm the surgery, and vice president Chris Mullin did not return calls for comment. Any extended layoff for Richardson would be a huge blow to the Warriors, who traded backup guard Derek Fisher to the Jazz last month and are relying on injury-prone Baron Davis to stay healthy.
