WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) — Senior forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu of 6th-ranked George Washington Tuesday underwent successful knee surgery on his left knee.

The operation was to remove a small portion of cartilage. The team said on its Web site Wednesday that the 6-foot-9-inch senior from London is expected to return to action in the post-season.
‘In consultation with (team physician) Dr. Kenneth Fine, we came to the mutual agreement that an arthroscopic procedure was imminent,’ said well-known sports orthopedist Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, Ala., who performed the procedure. ‘We anticipate a rapid rehab and full recovery and we expect he will be ready for the NCAA tournament.’
Mensah-Bonsu, the Colonials` best all-around player and one of its best defenders, was injured on Feb. 25 against LaSalle.
In 24 games, he is shooting 57.2 percent and averaging 13.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest. He also has 10 steals and a team-high 37 blocked shots.
